How Can You Restore Collagen?

2 Minute Read:

Youthful skin is possible, thanks to a substance known as collagen. As a person ages, they produce less of the protein, resulting in visible signs of aging in areas like the face and neck.

Collagen is currently having a moment in the spotlight. Recently, more women and men are learning about the significance this protein has on their tissues and skin, leading to a rush of collagen supplements and dietary powders. While there is nothing wrong with these supplements (and they can be quite beneficial), they may not be enough to stimulate the needed collagen to provide truly noticeable results.

Fortunately, there are many cosmetic treatments available to help restore collagen levels and provide a renewed sense of youthfulness to the skin.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a treatment that uses fine needles to make hundreds of micro-wounds in the skin. The creation of these wounds stimulates a healing response in the cells, promoting collagen and elastin production, and helping to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), microneedling is one of the best ways to restore the protein.

What Are Injectable Fillers?

Injectable fillers are plumping substances injected beneath the skin to restore volume. Some of these injectable fillers, such as RADIESSE® volumizing filler and Sculptra® Aesthetic, help restore fullness by forcing the body to produce natural collagen and by replacing lost collagen.

While both of these injectables are made of different substances, they both help restore youthful and fuller facial contours.

What Are PRP Injections?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections involve injecting growth factor-containing plasma directly into the skin. PRP is a derivative of your blood, and it is the portion that contains the most powerful and potent nutrients and proteins. When a concentration of this substance is injected into the skin, it boosts dermal collagen levels.

What Should I Expect While Recovering From Cosmetic Collagen Treatments?

It’s expected to experience redness and sensitivity for the first 24 hours after a non-surgical treatment like microneedling or injectables. You may even look flushed or like you have a mild sunburn, which is normal. You must care for your skin very carefully to prevent further irritation.

Fortunately, though, these non-surgical treatments require no downtime, and you can return to work and your usual day-to-day activities immediately and strenuous activity after a day or so.
